Sharon Argue Memorial Trophy (Scottish National Women’s RR Series)
E/1/2/3/4, 64km
When one considers how many of the UK’s top female cyclists are from Scotland, it seems strange that there are relatively few races for them in their homeland (and when one considers how beautiful and perfect for cycling Scotland is, it’s positively bizarre). This on offers a chance to see some of the very best including Julie Erskine (Ikon-Mazda), Jennifer Edwards (Team 22), Flora Gillies (Project 51) and more.

SDCC Woodbridge Circuits
Cats. 2/3/4, 1hr
With the long, wide run-in to the finish, this one seems guaranteed to end with a bunch sprint – so expect plenty of action earlier on as all the riders who aren’t so good in a sprint do whatever they can to try to prevent those that are from having it all their own way! Some of the region’s top club riders have signed up, including Gaia Casciello and Rebecca Maynard of Welwyn Wheelers, Alison Wood of Redbridge CC, Jen Smart of VC Norwich and privateer Gemma Melton. Also on the start line are Claire Richardson of Zappi’s and Hannah Shean of Southend Wheelers – a rider who Neutral Service believes has enormous potential.

Crits at the Park #4
E/1/2, 1hr. Cats. 3/4, 1hr.
VC St Raphael’s Sophie Household looks like the hot tip for victory in the E/1/2 race. The 3/4 has more entries and may well turn out to be the most exciting of the two events – NS is going to be all partisan and keep fingers crossed for Cambridge CC’s Joy Lisney 😉

Banbury Star RR (Women’s Team Series)
E/1/2/3/4, 72km
You always get a good selection of riders at a Team Series event and this one’s no different – among many illustrious names on the 82-strong start list are SE Regional Champion Bella Leach, Laura Massey (who won the SE Regionals, but isn’t Champ because she lives in the Eastern Region), former Cheshire Classic winner Karla Boddy, National RR Series Champion Nikki Juniper, Jo Tindley, Hannah Walker, Ellie Cadzow, Lou Collins, Julie Erskine, Corrine Hall, Julia Heselberg, Anna Marie Hughes, Nicole Oh and many, many more.

Performance Cycles – South Cerney RR
Cats. 2/3/4, 70km
Quite likely to be a battle between Team Peformance Cycles (5 riders) and Ride 24/7 (7 riders). But who knows – there are plenty of others who are more than capable of taking on both teams.

PH Mas-VCUK Women’s Spring RR (Yorks Women’s RR Series)
Cats. 2/3/4, 56km
You’ve got to love PH Mas – in less than two seasons they’ve become one of the biggest and best-known squads on the circuit, but best of all they’re not content to just show up and race: they also want to do all they can to promote women’s cycling, including by organising excellent races such as this one. Riders notice things like that, so 50 of them have signed up for this one and there are some real stars among them: Annabel Simpson, Elisa McDonagh, Amira Mellor, Victoria Hood, Monica Dew, Emma Coldwell, Nikki Butler and many more – plus, of course, Kirsty Boak, Sinead Burke, Jenny Eastham, Natalie Hodson, Alison Kinloch, Amy O’Halloran, Clara Sandelind and Madeline Scott from the host team.

Pedalsport League #2
E/1/2/3/4, duration unknown
Seonaid Thompson and Ann Whyte (Albarosa CC), Claire Smith (Pedalsport CC) and unattached Rachael Disley are signed up, leaving 26 spaces unfilled. Up in Yorkshore for the PH Mas race on Sunday? It’s only 65km from there to Halifax, so if you’ve got the bank holiday off why not swell their numbers?

Matrix GP #2
E/1/2/3, 45mins
In only a few years, the Matrix GP has gone from being a one-off women’s race held in conjunction with a men’s race series to one of the biggest and most spectacular events on the women’s cycling calendar – not just in the UK, but worldwide. “Yeah, but it’s just another crit,” you may say. Fair enough – there are a lot of crits in women’s cycling in the UK, but thanks to the investement and belief of Matrix Fitness, the GP series has developed into something truly special. And it’s on telly, so if you don’t live near Motherwell you can still see it!

Lotus Cars Cycle Race League 4
E/1/2/3/4, 1hr
Always an interesting race due to being used by some of the top riders in the region for race practice – such as Tanya Griffiths, who races with the men because she’s well ‘ard. Don’t bother taking your camera; Lotus don’t allow it – in case you take pictures of the alien technology in their sheds 🙂
