The ever-popular Cheddington circuit squeezes a fine selection of terrains into only a few kilometres and offers something for everyone, whick once again proved a big draw: with entries on the line, organisers were proud to find themselves with very nearly a full field – bot bad at all considering only a couple of weeks earlier they’d been asking on social media for more riders to sign up!
2Nobody could really be bothered making a break stick and so once the peloton had fractured into a few loose groups that were never out of sight of each other the race settled into a rhythm: climbers made up time on the (short, but in some cases quite steep) hills, rouleurs made up time on the descents, sprinters hung on and waited while various faces took their turn at the front. One which was never far away was that of Jadan-Vive le Velo’s 2nd Category Junior Georgia Bullard – and while her dad was the most delighted to see her do so well, anyone who has followed her (mis)fortunes this season will have shared a sense of his joy…
Neutral Service: Georgia, congratulations on the win today!
Georgia Bullard: Thank you, I’m really happy actually – had a bit of a rocky season, a lot of crashes and things, so its nice to finally get a win!
NS: Talk us through the race, it looked pretty much like a bunch race all the way through?
GB: It was – there were a few attacks, there was quite a fast descent that split things up a bit and there were a few attacks that went, but they all got pulled back together for a bunch sprint at the finish.
NS: When did you finally decide to attack on that last lap.
GB: I knew Helen Ralston (SigmaSport x Threo) had been a previous winner on this course, so I knew perhaps she would go quite early up the climb, because she has won here before… I was marking her, then when I saw the junction coming andfinal corner with a hundred metres to finish I decided to go and just managed to hold them off. Pleased with that!
NS: You’ve had an interesting season with a few crashes.
NS: Quite a nasty one at the CiCLE Classic and this puts everything in to perspective and turns the season around with some positives.
GB: I’m really pleased actually, it’s kinda got rid of all those bad things, it’s nice to just have something that’s good finally. I’ve worked hard and finally some good luck has come my way.
NS: Congratulations again.
GB: Thank you so much, and thank you to everyone who helped put on the race!
