10 Minutes with…Anton Vos

If you follow pro womens cycling, you’ll have seen Anton Vos as a fixture at all the biggest races around the World. If you’ve not been lucky enough to go to the race, then you will no doubt have seen his photos and reports.  Anton has taken 2 major parts of his life (Supporting his Multi-World Champion sister Marianne & Photography) and made them his trade.  Here we grab some time with Anton.

What was the highlight of your 2013?

Worlds in Firenze, made some very nice pictures of Ellen and Marianne…

Where would you like to be at this time in 2014?

Worlds in Spain and I hope for great photos as well then.

What does the future hold for women’s cycling? Are you optimistic or pessimistic?

I think the future is very good, because women cycling is getting more and more polular,
although it is with small steps – races like Giro Rosa and Worlds are getting more attention and TV coverage!

In 2013, a lot of fans have been getting more involved in women’s cycling. Any ideas what we can do to help even more?

Try get more and more people enthusiastic with and through social media and try to watch some races live! It’s a great atmosphere and very nice to follow!

How can we encourage more women to start racing?

It’s important to get youth riders on the bike because they are the future of racing, they want to be like their idols and its important to give that full support.

Which is your favourite race? Why?

I like Flanders [Ronde van Vlaanderen], because of the atmosphere, but also the Worlds are an exciting thing each year! And travelling around the world to photograph women’s cycling is the best thing to do!

What are you reading at the moment?

I’m not a reader but I read the book “Op de Troon” by my sister and I have started the book “Strijd in het Vrouwenpeloton,” about Ellen van Dijk and Marianne in the 2011 Giro Rosa.

What’s on your Ipod?

I have Spotify on my iPhone so its my iPod so if I go out training, all sorts of music, Avril Lavigne, Foo Fighters, U2, David Guetta, Flo Rida and some Dutch songs – a very wide range of different music styles.

Here’s a time machine which you can use to meet any rider from any point in history. Who will you be meeting?

That’s a hard question, maybe Coppi and Bartali. They fought tremendous duels on the bike in the past!

Last question, and it’s the one that top psychologists agree reveals more about a person than any other: which is better – cats or dogs?

Cats! Our Sjekkie is the best!
